The Hotel Guest Rooms

Eight gracious and elegant hotel rooms, each furnished with authentic western antiques, have been professionally decorated to bring the warmth of modern color while maintaining the distinctive decor of the past. Each has a private bath and air conditioning. One has a whirlpool tub; one, a steam shower.

The Peter Britt Room:
Peter Britt came to Jacksonville from Switzerland via Illinois in 1862. He had trained as an artist and studied daguerreotyping. When he first moved to Jacksonville, then a tent town, he went into the pack train business moving freight from Crescent City to Jacksonville. Later, he became a full-time photographer; he was the first to photograph Crater Lake. He also planted grape starts from California and produced Claret, Muscat, and Zinfandel wines. Many of the Rogue Valley's first pear and apple trees were planted by Peter Britt. Today, the premiere summer outdoor music festival, The Britt Festival, is named in his honor and is held on land once owned by him.

The Blanchet Room:
The Blanchet Room is named for an early religious pioneer of the area, Reverend Francoise Zavious Blanchet (1835-1906), who was the third reverend at St. Joseph's Parish and responsible for its success and growth. He formed St. Mary's Academy in 1865, where Peter Britt sent his daughter as a boarding student. He was a big fundraiser for the Church and rallied against Masonic groups. Blanchet was the only clergyman to come to the aid of the community during the smallpox epidemic when others fled. He was at St. Joseph's Parish for 25 years.
